The History of the Study of Toponyms

This article analyzes the history of the study of toponyms. It examines the formation of toponymy as a scientific discipline and its development based on historical-comparative and etymological approaches. Particular attention is given to the contributions of thinkers, foreign scholars, and Uzbek researchers, as well as to their scientific studies and works in this field. In addition, the role of toponyms in reflecting linguistic and historical-cultural information is briefly explained. The study also partially highlights modern approaches and outlines the future prospects of toponymic research.
